Skogman Companies’ history is now on display at The History Center! Our team recently celebrated the October 23 opening of Skogman: Building Communities Creating Opportunities, a new exhibit that looks back at our roots as we prepare to celebrate our 80th anniversary in 2027.
Our story in Cedar Rapids began in 1943, when Erick Skogman moved to the city to remodel apartments for defense workers. His son Roy joined him two years later, helping lay the foundation for a family business that would grow alongside the communities it served.
Since those early days, Skogman Homes has built more than 13,000 homes across Iowa, developing neighborhoods throughout Cedar Rapids, Iowa City, Cedar Falls and Waterloo. Skogman Companies has also grown to include residential and commercial realty, insurance, remodeling and repair, apartments and storage.
The exhibit brings that history to life through original home plans, photos of our first communities and a closer look at the people and milestones behind our growth. Throughout the years, our guiding philosophy has remained rooted in creating communities built on Relaxation, Friendship and Family.
