60-Hour Real Estate Agent Pre-License Course
The first step in starting your real estate career is to complete the Pre-License Class. This course will prepare you to take the state real estate exam.

Classes meet Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. and Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. to noon at our Downtown Cedar Rapids office.

SkillPath
SkillPath covers the 36 hours of state-required education you need to earn your license. Through three 12-hour courses, you'll build on the fundamentals and gain a well-rounded foundation for your real estate career.
Edge Academy
After mastering the basics in SkillPath, Edge Academy puts your knowledge to work. Over 8 weeks, you'll build real confidence through hands-on role-plays, prospecting assignments, and habit-forming activities built for everyday situations.
Continuing Education
Education is a cornerstone of the Skogman Realty experience. From day one, agents gain lifetime access to our professional development programs, completely free. In the last year alone, we provided more than 464 hours of training opportunities across our team.
The Skogman Real Estate School
Taught by experienced real estate professionals, this Iowa Real Estate Commission-approved 60-hour course gives you the foundation to pass your exam and start your career. We also go beyond the basics with real-life scenarios, continuing education, and state-required certification courses year-round.
After the Pre-License Class
Completing our pre-license class qualifies you to take the PSI real estate exam ($100). After passing, you'll complete 36 hours of post-exam coursework. You can then affiliate with a broker and begin working with clients. All requirements must be completed within 12 months.
Online Real Estate Class
Do you have a hectic schedule? Busy juggling family and work? The online Real Estate Class may be your option for getting into the real estate business. The class consists of National and Iowa Real Estate Principles.

If you are interested in attending the class please request an application or send an email to denisemiller@skogman.com Cancellations can be made up to 48 hours before the first day of class for a full immediate refund. If the class has begun, no refunds will be given. If you cannot attend the course that you are registered to attend, you will be eligible to attend a future class as it becomes available.

No. Skogman Realty agents are paid strictly on commission using our commission schedule. The harder you work and the more you sell, the more you earn. Your income potential is not capped.
Each sales associate is responsible for their own insurance. You have the choice to pick whichever carrier you would like, or you can use a spouse's insurance plan if that is an option.
Once you graduate from the Development Center, you are able to set your own hours. Keep in mind that much of your prospecting comes from holding open houses on Saturdays and Sundays, and a large portion of your hours will be working when it is convenient for your clients, which is usually after 5 p.m. and on the weekends.
The Skogman Real Estate School will give you all the tools you need to be successful in the real estate business, starting with the 60-hour Pre-License Class.
According to the National Association of Realtors, approximately 30% of Realtors succeed in the profession. At Skogman, graduates of the Development Center have an 82% success rate.
As an Independent Contractor, Skogman Realty does not withhold taxes. Many of your expenses are tax-deductible items, including your mileage. Most agents file quarterly tax returns, and everyone is encouraged to contact their personal tax advisor.
As soon as you get your license and are affiliated with a broker, you are ready to start selling.
Yes. There are monthly fees to be associated with the Cedar Rapids and/or Iowa City Association of Realtors. There is also a nominal Skogman Realty service fee.
