I was born in Moline, Illinois and spent a portion of my childhood in Mandan, North Dakota but we moved around a lot. By the time I graduated high school, my family and I resided in Grand Island, Nebraska. We lived in a total of 9 different states and several different towns. I can honestly say I am happy to call Cedar Rapids my home and I have no intention of leaving!
I entered the working world at a very young age. In high school I had a variety and different jobs and experiences. Some of my jobs included being a lineman for a small commuter airline, an exercise boy for horse racing stables, and lifeguard at the local YMCA.
Once I planted myself in Cedar Rapids, I focused my goals, and my working career took off. I had huge success working for Montgomery Ward selling appliances which kickstarted my endeavor of going to Kirkwood Community College to acquire my AA. Once I had achieved that, I then went on to Coe College to acquire my BA in Business Administration all while working full-time.
After earning my BA from Coe, I had started working as an intern at the Five Seasons Center & Paramount Theatre. I concluded my career there with 18 years under my belt and was the Director of Programming & Marketing. During my time there, I was entrusted to manage over 100 employees, had a $3.4 million budget, 320 event days and attendance of over 320,000 people annually. The experience of running an event with this volume proves I can handle pressure, responsibility, performance management, issue resolution and so much more.
I have negotiated contracts with some of the largest touring and musical acts in the world and pulling off these events was no easy feat. Long hours, late nights and attention to detail made these events happen smoothly and gave me a very solid base to precede a career in Real Estate. I also have experience with the Science Station as an Interim Executive Director as well as 10 years’ experience as the Executive Director of Hawkeye Downs in Cedar Rapids.
I have a daughter, Colette, who attends the University of Iowa and a son, Jack, who attends Linn Mar High School.
