Our story starts in 1947 – a year of many firsts.

Jackie Robinson took the field for the Brooklyn Dodgers as the first African American player in Major League Baseball. The classic holiday film Miracle on 34th Street premiered in theaters. The Polaroid Land Camera was first demonstrated in New York.

In the heart of America, a small company with big dreams to serve the community with quality and value was born. That company, founded by Erick and Roy Skogman, was Skogman Homes.

The path to the array of services and locations Skogman offers today has been steady, thanks to five generations of family members proud to serve the community.

The '60s and '70s

Following twelve years of growth as Skogman Homes, the business entered the '60s with a desire to meet the needs of the community through expended services. In 1965, Skogman Insurance was formed to offer peace of mind through home, auto and business insurance for Iowa residents in Cedar Rapids, Iowa City and beyond.

The Skogman brand continued its momentum in the '70s. Skogman Realty launched in 1973, growing to include offices in the communities of Hiawatha and Marion, and is now the predominately recognized real estate company in the marketplace.

In 1974, Pheasant Run Apartments were built in Southwest Cedar Rapids with amenities including a swimming pool, playground, volleyball, picnic area, and clubhouse.

The '80s

With business development on the rise, Skogman Companies launched Skogman Commercial Group in 1988 – becoming a dominant force in the sale and leasing of commercial properties, land development, income properties and businesses in Cedar Rapids, Marion, Iowa City and surrounding areas. With 24 full-time agents, they quickly became market leaders – capturing almost 50% of the market share.

The 2000's

With success in the Corridor firmly established, Skogman Homes expanded into Cedar Falls and surrounding communities to offer construction of quality-built homes to the growing communities in 2003.

Expansion followed into 2009 as Skogman Realty extended its presence in the eastern Iowa Corridor with an office in Coralville, serving the Johnson County area.

By 2017, Skogman Companies was able to acquire D&B Remodeling, a full-service commercial and residential remodeling company.

2022 and beyond

Since its birth in 1947, Skogman Homes has not only grown into one of the largest builders in Iowa, but its reputation of excellent quality and great neighborhoods has established our company as the builder providing the best home value in the Midwest.

   One of Iowa's true hidden gems, Indian Creek, is an outstanding smallmouth bass stream that lies well off the beaten path. Rocky areas and deep holes up to 8 feet deep harbor big smallmouths year-round, and some walleye swim-up Indian Creek from the Cedar River every spring. Twister-tail grubs and spinners are the lures of choice for local anglers. You can access the creek through Indian Creek Nature Center, just outside Cedar Rapids (the Nature Center facilities are closed due to COVID-19 at this time, but the trails and grounds remain open). 
   
   
5. Five in One Dam - Cedar Rapids, IA 52405
   Right in the heart of Downtown Cedar Rapids, the Cedar River offers a wealth of fishing opportunities, particularly in the area directly downstream from the Five in One Dam. Many anglers drop a line from the Cedar River Trail, which meanders along the shoreline, try their luck from Riverfront Park on Mays Island, or fish directly off the 1st Avenue Bridge. Either way, the river offers great smallmouth bass, walleye, and white bass fishing, along with the opportunity to tangle with giant carp and catfish.

Buying a new home is an exciting and rewarding experience! Most new homeowners can't wait to move in. But before you start unpacking, make sure to complete a deep clean of your new home. This involves cleaning your new home from top to bottom.

Start by gathering the necessary cleaning supplies. Your essential cleaning supplies include cleaning products, rubber gloves, sink/tub cleaner, paper towel, floor cleaner, mop, bucket, duster, and if you have carpeting, invest in a good vacuum. Once you've gathered your supplies, work through cleaning these areas in your new home to ensure a fresh start! 

1. Bathroom
   Your home's bathroom is one of the most used rooms in the house. Start with the bathroom first to get rid of germs or bacteria. When cleaning the toilet, remember to get behind the porcelain base. Clean the sink; if possible, pull out the vanity to clean behind the area. Wipe down the bathroom walls and any shelving units. Wash the bathroom mirrors if the bathroom has a built-in medicine cabinet, clean each shelf. Clean the tub and replace the shower curtain.
2. Kitchen
   Start with the appliances. The refrigerator should be first. Wash all drawers and sanitize the shelf before filling with food. If you do not want to use harsh chemicals, use vinegar mixed with warm water to clean the refrigerator. Pull out the fridge to clean behind the appliance. Next, wash the oven, including the stovetop and hood. Pull out and clean the drawer underneath the stove. Next, scrub the kitchen sink and any other remaining appliances. Wipe down and clean all the cabinets inside and out, wash any countertop space, and any other shelving units.
3. Remaining Rooms
   If the rest of the rooms are empty, you will have an easier time cleaning. Wipe down the walls, vacuum or sweep, and mop floors. Depending on your move-in date, you may want to get a professional carpet cleaning service to steam clean the carpets in each room.
4. Windows
   Clean all your windows on the inside and outside. Clean the window sills. Often dead bugs accumulate on the ledge. Using your vacuum attachments is a great way to clean your window sills. If you have blinds, carefully wash each blind to remove any germs or residue.
5. Doors
   Using a cleaner, wipe down the doors and the knobs. Wash the windows. If you have sliding glass doors, clean the window areas.
6. Air Vents
   Dust the air vents in your home. Check and replace your air filters. A dirty air filter can cause pollutants to enter your freshly cleaned areas.
7. Ceiling Fans
   Wipe down each blade on the ceiling fans. Dust quickly accumulates on the back of the blades.

In the Cedar Rapids metro market, we are seeing the average price hovering around $199,000 which up 2.1% from this time last year. The average number of days that a property is on the market is 33, which is up 6.5% from this time last year. There are 644 active listings in the Cedar Rapids Metro area, that is actually up 7.1% from this time last year.
