Who says you have to spend a lot of money to have fun in the Cedar Rapids area?

  • Indian Creek Nature Center - 5300 Otis Rd. SE, Cedar Rapids, IA 52403
    Indian Creek Nature Center remains as beautiful as it was more than a century ago when it was the site of two farms. Opened to the public on Groundhog Day in 1974, Indian Creek was the first nature center in Iowa. The remodeled Pennigroth Dairy Barn, dating back to the 1920s, is still used for many of the center's activities. Hike through 200 acres of forests and wetlands, or participate in programs and special events such as outdoor yoga and Pilates classes. Indian Creek is open daily from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.

  • Cedar Rapids Museum of Art - 410 Third Ave. SE, Cedar Rapids, IA 52401
    Iconic American artist Grant Wood, who painted the classic American Gothic, grew up near Cedar Rapids homes for sale. His original studio is one of the main attractions at the Cedar Rapids Museum of Art. With more than 7,800 pieces in the permanent collection, displays rotate periodically, so there's always something new to see. The museum also hosts temporary themed exhibits, such as "Art in Roman Life" and "Beyond the Prairie: Midwestern Art." From July 1 through Labor Day, admission is free for all visitors. Hours are noon - 4 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday, noon - 8 p.m. Thursday, and 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Saturday.

  • NewBo City Market - 1100 3rd St. SE, Cedar Rapids, IA 52401
    Treat yourself while supporting local entrepreneurs at NewBo City Market. Located in New Bohemia, a vibrant arts and cultural district, the market is home to an eclectic group of small businesses showcasing artisan goods and sustainable foods. Pick up handcrafted skin care products at Rare Bird Soap Shop, then grab some tacos at La Reyna. Visit the website or follow them on Facebook for information about Kids Activity Camps, Sip & Paint Class, and other special events. Market hours are 10 a.m. - 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday, 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. Saturday, and 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Sunday.

  • Brucemore - 2160 Linden Dr. SE, Cedar Rapids, IA 52403
    Brucemore
    , a stunning 26-acre estate highlighted by an impressive Queen Anne mansion, serves as a living time capsule depicting the history of Cedar Rapids. The grounds provide one of the last remaining examples of a prairie-style landscape featuring specialty gardens, wooded areas, and a pond. Guided tours of the mansion are available, but the pet-friendly grounds are open to the public at no charge for walks, geocaching, and picnics. Hours are 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. on weekdays and 9:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. on weekends.

  • Wickiup Hill Learning Center - 10260 Morris Hill Rd., Toddville, IA 52341
    Wickiup Hill Learning Center, just minutes from Toddville homes for sale, promotes nature awareness for all ages, but kids are too busy having fun to know that they're learning. Don't miss Wandering Woods, the center's newest attraction, where kids can play, create, and explore with natural materials. Visit the bird and wildlife viewing areas to see how many animals you can spot. Wickiup Hill is open 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. weekdays, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Saturday, and 1 p.m. - 4 p.m. Sunday.
