Parks in Iowa City

Our real estate agents love to unwind outdoors with the company of a book. Celebrate National Book Lovers Day on Sunday, August 9th, with some quality reading time at one of these beautiful parks around Iowa City.

  1. Kiwanis Park - 1519 Teg Dr., Iowa City, IA 52246
Since 1993, this 14-acre area has been a hidden gem right down the street from Iowa City homes for sale. Kiwanis Park has a large, open green space makes it easy to find a reading spot. When you want to stretch your legs, take a stroll along the paved path. Convenient parking can be found near the trailhead.

  2. City Park - 200 E. Park Rd., Iowa City, IA 52246
Nestled along the south banks of the Iowa River is the scenic 107-acre City Park. Acquired in 1906, the expansive park is the largest in Iowa City. Grounds include two ponds and several trails that wind through the park's natural areas. If you want to make it a family outing, picnic tables and grills are available on a first-come-first-served basis. City Park is open 6 a.m. - 10 p.m. daily.

  3. Wetherby Park - 2400 Taylor Dr., Iowa City, IA 52240
For nearly 50 years, Wetherby Park has been a favorite outdoor spot for residents of Iowa City's south side. The park's most notable feature is its edible forest, located on the west side of the grounds. One-third of an acre is dedicated to an ecosystem filled with chemical-free fruits, nuts, flowers, and medicinal herbs. Park hours are 8 a.m. - 9 p.m., seven days a week.

  4. Central Park - 501 - 6th St., Coralville, IA 52241
The facility may share its name with a more famous one in NYC, but Central Park is just minutes from Coralville homes for sale. A quaint arched pedestrian bridge is one of the highlights of the park, which also includes an arboretum featuring almost all tree species native to Iowa. As home to one of Coralville's five Little Free Libraries, Central Park is truly a perfect spot for book lovers. The park is open 24/7.

  5. Riverfront Crossings - 1101 S. Clinton St., Iowa City, IA 52240
The poetically-named Riverfront Crossings is one of the more recent additions to Iowa City's park system. Development began in 2016, with Phase I including restoration of Ralston Creek and the creation of wetlands. By the time of its official grand opening in July 2019, the trails on the 17-acre park were already the most heavily used in the city. Stunning river views and proximity to both downtown Iowa City and the University of Iowa campus contribute to the park's popularity. Future enhancements include trail lighting, public art, and a dog park.
