Skogman is a proud supporter of the arts and those who bring artistic value to the residents of Iowa. Specifically, theater is a vital aspect to the creative community in Cedar Rapids, as well as the greater Corridor area as a whole. The Rich Heritage of Cedar Rapids Theatre Company (RHCR) continues to contribute to this legacy by providing performance experience to local talent and shows to eager audiences. Matt Ford, a Skogman REALTOR, founded the company and serves as the executive director.
RHCR’s mission is to bring movies to the stage. Each show was once a film production at one point in time, an important niche which sets the company apart from others like it. Matt felt a lack of theatrical opportunities in the area and wanted to see this change. A simple idea, but one that spurred the creation of an entirely new business and artistic venture.
Helping and giving back to the community is one of the central covenants of RHCR. They accomplish this by identifying a local charity to give funds for each production. Furthermore, one performance of each show is accompanied by an American Sign Language interpreter. By doing this, the company is able to break down disability barriers which may prevent someone from attending and enjoying a live action show. Finally, RHCR produces children’s shows which are put on exclusively by child actors and backstage personnel. This gives young people the opportunity to get involved with theater, as well as put on a production which is entirely their own.
“One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest,” is the next show for RHCR and will be performed at the Village Venue in the Czech Village in downtown Cedar Rapids. Dates for the shows are April 28th, 29th, and 30th, as well as May 5th and 6th. Tickets go on sale March 28th. Skogman cares about artistic exposure and opportunities for the community, so should you!
